Peyto Design Works Website

I just finished the new Peyto Design Works website for Paul in a chill brown theme. I made the site more blog based to make things easier to update and post pictures of what’s going on. Hopfully he keeps building custom bicycle frames and trials bikes after he finishes his masters in engineering at UBC, because he build some of the most progressive bicycle frames in mountain biking today.

80s Tuck and Roll Mix

For those of us where remember the 80’s I am sure you’ll remember the tuck and roll. For those who couldn’t get, buy, or find the really tapered pants you had to tuck and roll em in order to get them nice and tight. The first person who taught me the tuck and roll was Sarah Wall from Peterborough, Ontario. At the time she made fun of my pants for being to baggy, and not tight enough at the bottom. Who would have thought?

Anyhow, here is an 80’s mix tape I made dedicated to those who like to roll em tight. Mike Morrison (aka Bike Mike), Sarah Wall, and all those other people that love a tight roll this mix goes out to you!

Tax cuts, Deficits, and a Spoiled Generation

Here’s an editorial that was recently published in the Victoria Times Colonist.

Political parties today truly favor the values of a selfish baby
boomer generation. This generation voted in political parties who
created huge deficits in all levels of government and then question
the tax structure in the Canadian economy. This debt will only be
passed onto your children, a generation that had no choice in their
parent’s fiscal irresponsibility.

Tax credits should be progressive and help benefit future generations.
Why not increase taxes on business and vehicles that aren’t
environmentally friendly, and give credits to those who push
innovative products and services. Instead of reducing taxes for those
with the most disposable income perhaps we should be reducing taxes
for students and those trying to gain some financial grounding.

If there is going to be some tax reform it should be for future
generations instead of a generation who never went to war, had great
music, frivolous sex, and took consumer culture to a whole new level.
Isn’t it time to take some accountability for your actions and think
about someone else?

Progressive City Planning for Victoria

This appeared in the Times Colonist Newspaper on August 24, 2004

The other evening I decided to go down to Darcy’s pub for a pint with a few friends. We arrived around 10:30 p.m. and went out to the patio to enjoy the scenery and watch the tourists pass by. However after being there for less then five minutes we were informed that we had to go inside due to the new bylaw passed that prohibits drinking on the patio past 11 p.m.

Why does this city keep repressing all downtown activity? Progressive Canadian cities like Toronto and Calgary allow people to sit out in the nice weather and enjoy a beverage, so why doesn’t Victoria? It seems this city is run by a group of old dictators looking to suck all life out of this city by driving away customers and tourists in the process.

Perhaps instead of closing the patios we should be closing a few select streets (Wharf and Government) with some small two-foot gates. This would allow the patios to extend out onto the sidewalk and the pedestrians can take over the roads. Not only would it bring people together it would create more interactivity between the tourists and the local businesses.

Victoria, it’s time to escape your archaic views and start building a city with life and some progressive views on city planning.
